Norwalk, CT (BoxingGurus.com) - The hype has been going on for months now and actually really kicked into gear right after the Lennox Lewis/ David Tua borefest. As I walked out of the arena after seeing Lewis dance around Tua, you could see all the banners and posters for the upcoming bout, and hear everyone saying, "Trinidad/Vargas will be nothing like what you saw tonight." Well, the time has come to see if they were right this Saturday night when WBA Junior Middleweight Champion Felix Trinidad 38-0 (31 KO) clashes with young superstar, and IBF Junior Middleweight Champion, Fernando Vargas 20-0 (18 KO).
A unification bout of this magnitude is one that is rarely seen as champions usually try to distance themselves from other champions, but neither man has been afraid of anyone throughout their career and that will carry on this weekend. The fight will take place in Las Vegas, NV at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino this Saturday night with the Pay-Per-View card beginning at 9 PM EST.
Trinidad will be returning to the same arena where he upset Oscar De La Hoya on September 18, 1999 to put himself on the map as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world. This is Trinidad's third "Super Fight", as he has defeated De La Hoya and Pernell Whitaker previously. "Super Fights" define a career and a victory Saturday for Trinidad will supplant himself as an all-time great.

As for Vargas, this will be his first "Super Fight", but with over 100 amateur fights and many very solid victories in his professional career, he is ready for this challenge. Some experts say his young age, Vargas is only 22, will be a hindrance as he might not handle the pressure or get to antsy in the beginning of the fight and get caught by Trinidad, but time will only tell.
One thing that will come out of this fight is the respect of both fighters for taking on the best, and an early holiday present for all boxing fans.
The referee assigned to the Trinidad/Vargas fight will be Jay Nady, and the judges are Duane Ford, Stanley Christodoulou and Glenn Hamada.
There is also a very solid undercard as legendary Ricardo Lopez defends his IBF Junior Flyweight Title against Ratanapol Vorapin, and William Joppy and Ener Julio also defend their titles. Former Heavyweight champion Oliver McCall is also making an appearance on the undercard.
