Norwalk, CT (BoxingGurus.com) - A source from the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino who is close to negotiations for the fight between IBF and WBC Heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson revealed to BoxingGurus.com that the fight has been signed and will take place at the hotel sometime in the month of November. Mandalay Bay officials could not be reached for comment.
BoxingGurus.com has learned that because of outstanding issues regarding
Tyson's Nevada State boxing license and Lewis' April defense against Hasim Rahman, the deal has been kept silent. According to the source, the camps are hedging that by November, Mike Tyson will have served out his suspensions and will have his boxing license reinstated. Also, both camps hope that by November, HBO and Showtime can come to an agreement on to who, and how, the proposed $100 million showdown will be televised.
Recent reports indicating that this fight will not occur is simply part of each camp's efforts to play down the impending media circus that would follow these fighters over the next several months. We would estimate that the official announcement would arrive sometime after Lewis and Tyson's next match-up.

In the meantime, Lennox Lewis is scheduled to defend his IBF and WBC Heavyweight titles against Hasim Rahman on April 21 in South Africa. Look for Tyson to sign for a tune up bout against David Izon for sometime in May or June. It appears Izon will be Tyson's next opponent as Izon's next scheduled fight has been cancelled. Assuming each fighter wins their respective bouts, they would not see action until they face each other in November.
The anticipation surrounding such a fight is enormous. Boxing fans have been waiting years for this fight and it appears that this Superfight may indeed become a reality. Please stay tuned to this breaking story and all other boxing news at BoxingGurus.com.
