JUNIOR JONES V MANUEL SEPEDA, VERNIE TORRES V NEDDY GARCIA HEADLINE CHAMPIONSHIP FIGHT CARD AT NEW HAVEN COLISEUM ON APRIL 19

Square Ring, Inc. will present a sensational championship fight card on Thursday, April 19, 2001, at the New Haven Coliseum, located at 275 South Orange Street in New Haven, Connecticut. This event is one in the series titled "Roy Jones Jr. Presents," and will be televised on Madison Square Garden Network and the Sunshine Network on tape delay.

JUNIOR JONES VS MANUEL SEPEDA

"Poison" Junior Jones, 47-5, 27 KOs, of Brooklyn, New York, is a one-man highlight film - he has fought the top bantamweights and jr. featherweights in the world, and been involved in some of the most exciting battles of recent years. Now 30 years old, Junior is 5-3 in world championship fights - he has beaten current world champion Marco Antonio Barrera twice, as well as former world champions Tracy Patterson, Tom Johnson, Orlando Canizales, Jorge Julio, and John Michael Johnson (1-1 in two fights). Junior has held the WBO jr. featherweight and the WBA bantamweight world titles.

Manuel Sepeda, 11-4-2, 5 KOs, of Austin, Texas, is a tough competitor with good skills. 28 years old, he is durable and determined, and has faced strong opposition. He is 4-1-1 in his last six fights.

Vernie Torres, 21-2, 12 KOs, is a native of the Philippines now based in Pensacola. A member of Roy Jones Jr.'s group of fighters, he has won seven in a row, including two of his best wins, and climbed in the world ratings to WBO #1, WBC #6, IBF #8. A former Philippine national jr. bantamweight champion, he first came to the United States with former WBC jr. bantamweight champion Gerry Penalosa in March, 1999. Now 26 years old, Vernie currently holds the WBO Intercontinental jr. bantamweight title.

24-year old Neddy Garcia, 11-2-1, 6 KOs, is another tough Texan, coming all the way from the town of Mission on the Mexican border near Brownsville. He has an aggressive style, good skills, and makes exciting fights. He is 6-0-1 in his last seven bouts.

Ezra Sellers, 22-3, 20 KOs, of Pensacola, Florida, is always dangerous in the ring, a hard-hitting southpaw with an aggressive, take-no-prisoners style. A 32-year old native of Washington, DC, Ezra has some tremendously exciting fights to his credit, and has scored several spectacular knockouts. His fight against heavyweight contender Alex Stewart in October, 1998, was one of the best of the year - Ezra scored three knockdowns, but was knocked down four times himself, all within three rounds. He currently has a seven-fight winning streak and is world-ranked at WBO #5, WBC #6, IBF #8, WBA #13.
