Quantico, VA (BoxingGurus.com) - BoxingGurus.com recently spoke with up an up and coming young Heavyweight, James Smedley. James spoke to us about his future plans and his decorated amateur boxing history. Without further delay we present James "Deadly" Smedley.
BoxingGurus.com - When and why did you get starting in boxing?
James - I started boxing when I was ten years old. I wanted to learn how to protect myself.
BoxingGurus.com - What fighters have influenced you?
James - My dad who is also my trainer, my brother, Sean O'Grady (my dad
trained him against fighter Hilmer Kenty) Muhammed Ali and Tommy
Hearns.
BoxingGurus.com - What influenced you to join the Marines? Also, how
long did you stay in?
James - I joined the Marine Corps because it was the hardest and most respected
branch in the military. Also figured it would help me pay for college.
Wanted to travel and get some life experience. I was in the Corp for
four years.
BoxingGurus.com - What was your job/MOS (Military Occupational
Specialty) in the Marine Corps?
James - My Mos was an O451 Air Delivery Specialist.
BoxingGurus.com - Up to this point, what is your proudest moment/accomplishment in the ring?
James - Winning the Armed Forces Championship. Which made me the best of
the best.
BoxingGurus.com - What's been the biggest adjustment for you since becoming a professional boxer?
James - The biggest adjustment becoming a professional boxer has been
getting the fights to stick. 3 out of 5 of my fights as a professional
have been no shows.
BoxingGurus.com - Are there any Heavyweights/contendors that you have a good working relationship with? James - Chris Byrd is a heavywieght contender that I have a working relationship
with.
BoxingGurus.com - Assuming that your ultimate goal is to become the Heavyweight boxing Champion of the world, have you set a time frame as to when you would like for this to happen?
James - That is a process that is going to take time I am hoping in 3 to 5
years I will be the heavywieght champion of the world.
BoxingGurus.com - Is there a website that fans may go to, to track your career or to see how things are going for you?
James - There is a website in the process as soon as it is set I will
forward it to you. FightNews.com runs articles on me occasionally.
