Shane Mosley to Defend His WBC Welterweight Title

June 14, 2001

Las Vegas, NV (CKP Press Release) - Undefeated Shane Mosley defends his World Boxing Council welterweight championship against Adrian Stone of England in a 12-round bout presented by Cedric Kushner Promotions at Caesars Palace Saturday, July 21.

This will be the second straight fight Mosley, generally acknowledged as one of the top three fighters in the world pound-for-pound, will defend his WBC 147-pound title at Caesars Palace. "I'm delighted to return to Las Vegas and Caesars Palace with Shane Mosley's world championship defense," said Kushner.

"We're elated to once again be hosting a Shane Mosley title defense, continuing Caesars Palace's tradition of championship boxing," said John Shigley, president of the resort. "This will be the 160th title bout in Caesars' 35-year history, and it is appropriate that Shane, one of today's greatest pound-for-pound fighters, join the ranks of the many boxing legends who have performed in our arena."

The 29-year-old Mosley, from Pomona, Calif., has a record of 37-0 with 34 knockouts. Stone, who'll be 30 two days before the title fight, has a record of 30-3-2 with 23 knockouts. The world championship card starts at 4:30 p.m. (Pacific) with doors to the Caesars Palace Pavilion opening at 4. The first televised fight starts at 6 with the Mosley-Stone title bout beginning at approximately 7.

Tickets, priced at $50, $100, $200 and $300, are available at the Caesars Palace Forum Casino box office from 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and Monday. Mosley's most recent successful defense was March 10 at Caesars Palace when he stopped Shannan Taylor in the fifth round.

Mosley won the WBC welterweight championship June 17, 2000, in Los Angeles with a unanimous decision over Oscar De La Hoya.

Mosley's first title defense was Nov. 4 in New York City when he halted Antonio Diaz in the sixth round.

Stone, from Bristol, England, is the International Boxing Organization light middleweight champion. He won that title during April, 2000, and has defended successfully three times, most recently March 13 in Plymouth, England, when he took a 12-round decision over Joe Townsley.

Kushner has been promoting cards in Las Vegas since 1993. He presents more than 50 world championship and non-title cards a year in North America, Europe, Asia, South America, Australia and Africa.

Caesars Palace has been hosting major world championship fights for four decades, earning the well-deserved reputation as "The Home of Champions." Caesars Palace is owned and operated by Las Vegas-based Park Place Entertainment, the world's largest gaming company with 29 properties worldwide.

The Mosley-Stone card will be televised by Home Box Office (HBO).
