Hanover, Germany (BoxingGurus.com) - Wladimir "Dr. Steelhammer" Klitschko vows to come back "stronger than ever'' after losing his World Boxing Organization (WBO) heavyweight title to big underdog Corrie Sanders Saturday night in Hannover, Germany.
"I want to come right back and hopefully I will get an immediate rematch," said Klitschko, who got decked with approximately 30 seconds remaining in the first round and four times overall en route to losing by shocking second-round TKO. The fight was stopped 33 seconds into the round.
"I got caught with a lucky punch, what can I say? These kinds of things should not happen, but they do. I left my guard down and he took advantage. Some of the greatest champions in history have come back after losing. My idol, Max Schmeling, Muhammad Ali, even Lennox Lewis lost and they came back. I am certain I will do the same.
"I give Sanders credit for tonight, but I am 100 percent sure I will win a rematch.''
Sanders improved to 39-2, 29 knockouts while Klitschko, who was making his sixth title defense, fell to 40-2 with 37 knockouts.
